An electromechanical press or servo press is a mechatronic system consisting of the press mechanics, the power electronics, the controller and the operating software. It is used in industrial production and serves to permanently join two or more solid bodies together. This can be done using various manufacturing processes such as joining, forming, riveting, piercing, embossing or punching.
Assembly presses are used in a wide range of areas and industries in which components or materials need to be joined together. The choice of joining process and assembly presses depends on the specific requirements of the application in question. Typical sectors include the automotive and automotive supply industry, battery production and the electromobility sector, the electrical industry, medical technology and aerospace technology.
Battery production, for example, involves the pressing of battery cell blocks or the assembly of battery cooling systems. In the automotive industry, assembly presses can be used for the assembly of ball joints in steering systems or wishbones. High-precision assembly presses with low forces, on the other hand, are used in medical technology, for example for crimping electrodes on pacemakers.
A joining process is a manufacturing process in which several components are firmly joined together to form a common unit or assembly. This process is widely used in many industries and applications, from metalworking and electronics manufacturing to the automotive industry. The joining process depends on the requirements of the industry and the material. Joining processes must be closely monitored and controlled to ensure a secure connection. Electromechanical assembly presses can provide ideal support to optimize the joining process, increase product quality and reduce production costs. In our technical center, we support you in the implementation and validation of your joining process and determine the relevant process parameters.
There are a variety of joining techniques for creating secure permanent or temporary connections in the manufacturing industry. The selection of the right joining technique depends on various factors, such as the nature of the material or the requirements of the end product. Joining techniques include the following processes:
The individual techniques can be subdivided into further categories. For example, there are different welding techniques such as electron beam welding or fusion welding.
An assembly press is based on a screw drive with a guide and ram in a steel housing. It is driven by an AC servo motor. The rotary movement of the motor is transferred to the screw drive via a toothed belt and converted into a linear movement of the press ram. The screw drive allows the required force to be applied not only in the push direction but also in the pull direction. The position of the press ram is specified via the servomotor control. The forces acting on the ram are recorded by strain gauge force sensors and transmitted to the servo amplifier. The entire force-displacement curve of the press ram is monitored and evaluated via envelope curve and/or window technology in the software.

With electromechanical assembly presses, you can increase the efficiency of your joining processes. Thanks to their precise and fast operation, they can produce high-quality and reliable joints. They are also designed to carry out the same process repeatedly with consistent quality. Other important advantages are quality assurance and documentation. Measured values are recorded via sensors and forwarded to the associated software. There you can monitor the quality of the process in real time, detect any errors immediately and adjust the process accordingly. Thanks to their robust design, electromechanical assembly presses are suitable for long periods of use in harsh industrial environments. They work quietly and energy-efficiently.
